From Frustration to Innovation - The X42 Story
Like so many fellow Aussies living in regional and rural areas, we’ve been relying on rainwater for years. But after one too many surprise run-outs. Talking to each other, we thought, “There’s got to be a smarter way to handle this!”
Turns out… there wasn’t, unless you wanted to pay for pricey systems, ongoing subscriptions, or gear that needs internet.
So, we decided to create our own solution.
Who We Are
We’re a small, passionate team based in Queensland. We combine experience in product development, electronics, and real-world problem solving. Between us, we’ve built tech for industries from construction to agriculture, but this one felt personal.
Because this isn’t just about data and sensors. It’s about trusting your tank, saving water, and making life just a little less stressful.
Why X42?
The name is a nod to The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy — where “42” is the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and everything. We liked the idea of applying that same spirit to something as fundamental (and underappreciated) as water monitoring.
“X” as universal: It’s a simple solution that works for anyone with tanks. Together X42.
Where We’re Going
X42 Monitoring isn’t just products, it’s a movement to make self-reliance easier, especially for the 1.1+ million Australian households using tanks every day.
We’re starting with water. But we’re thinking bigger because smart, independent devices without subscriptions should be accessible, affordable, and reliable for everyone.
Recognition
We’re proud to share that X42 Monitoring was selected for the Australian Government – Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry’s Future Drought Fund program as part of Beanstalk’s Innovator Cohort 2, being selected as one of the Top 8 Finalists. It’s a big step for a small team, and we’re excited to keep building solutions that matter.
